I love this picture. Were you in OC when you took it? Please tell me how you did it and what kind of camera/lens you use.

No, I took it in the Sequoia National Park in central California. I took this picture with my Nikon D90 and used a 10mm-20mm lens. You place the camera on a tripod and I activated the remote switch for one hour. All of this has to take place in total darkness. As the earth rotates the camera captures the stars, making them trail the way they do.

Aha..no wonder there are so many stars. Here in OC, the Disney lights prevent us from seeing them. Very cool. Thanks for the info. Did you attempt to photograph the space station viewings? It's been visible this month, but the marine layer has made it difficult. It would be interesting to try what you did with the station.

No space station shots. I believe the window for observing the space station was at best around four minutes on any given night. It is very small and would not produce the effect desired.
